The Vaughan A. Lewis Institute for Research and Innovation (VALIRI) in collaboration with The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College hosted two seminars aimed at strengthening academic research and graduate readiness among Saint Lucians. Both sessions were held physically at the SALCC Innovation Hub, with interested persons also able to attend virtually via Zoom.
The first seminar, Advancing Psychology Research in the Caribbean, was lead by Dr. Drexler James on Wednesday May 14th, 2025. Dr. James explored the underdeveloped state of psychology research in Saint Lucia and proposed strategies for generating locally relevant insights into mental health, behaviour, and well-being.
The second seminar, Unlocking Global Graduate Opportunities: A Toolkit for Caribbean University Students, was held on Friday May 16th featured Dr. Drexler James alongside epidemiologist Dr. Aviane Auguste. This session focused on equipping aspiring graduate students with essential knowledge about graduate school structures, application processes, funding options, and strategies for academic success in France, the United States, and Canada.
