SALCC Hosts Caribbean Workshop for UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme

On Monday, June 16, 2025, the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) proudly hosted and facilitated one in a series of four virtual workshops in support of the 2025 Call for Nominations to the Memory of the World Regional Register for Latin America and the Caribbean (MoWLAC). This UNESCO initiative seeks to preserve and promote access to valuable documentary heritage throughout the region.

Held via the College’s Zoom platform and streamed to YouTube, the workshop focused on guiding Caribbean institutions and individuals through the MoWLAC nomination process. The session was led by Mrs. Kathy Birch-McDiarmed, Head Librarian of SALCC's Hunter J. Francois Library, in collaboration with Mr. Gregory St. Jean, a MoWLAC Board member from Dominica. They were joined by several committee members, including three past presidents of the MoWLAC Committee, providing a wealth of expertise and insights to participants.

The MoWLAC Committee has organized four such workshops, each tailored to a specific sub-region, to offer targeted support to stakeholders across Latin America and the Caribbean. These workshops aim to empower libraries, archives, museums, and individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to preserve the region’s rich documentary legacy.

Applications for the 2025 Regional Register are due by August 15, 2025. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the MoWLAC Documentary Heritage Observatory to submit a nomination and seek additional information.
