You are not who you say you are.
Drop the mask!
Wait! I know,
That may not be such a simple task.
Everyday who you are,
Gets barred by the weight of society
All for the sake of propriety
You wore the mask here and there
Or in front of him or her
But the more you cower behind it,
removing it becomes harder
And soon that second face will be stitched onto yours.
Each hem sewn tight to hide your flaws.
Is who you are,
even you anymore?
When your reflection stares back
Who does it see?
Can you recognize yourself?
Is this who want to be?
Can you truly look and say?
“This is me.”
You reinforce the threads
You tie extra knots..
And all you wonder is,
What if your true feelings were caught?
You can’t let that happen
You must go with the flow
You carry down the stream
But with no paddle to row.
A whirlpool of opinions,
All stored inside you.
Let them out
This is your cue!
That beautiful mind was crafted for originality
Not made to scoop up the minds and thoughts of others
Stop using it as a cover!.
You are you.
Be you.
Don't let the screens or some ink cover up how you truly think
Don't let others opinions cause yours to smother
Don’t trail along mimicking how you’re expected to feel
Is that too much to ask?!, No!
So stop hiding under that god forsaken mask?!
I am not asking for the world
I am asking to make it real.
Have your own opinions and lock them down with steel
Look within yourself to express how you feel
And only then will the true you reveal.
So remove the mask.
Break it!
Let it shatter!
Let it fall to the ground and let the pieces scatter.
Let your true face experience life.
So one day you can look back and see how you grew
Because you’ve finally realized
You are you.
