Programme Description

The Cooperative Studies Certificate Programme is designed to provide an avenue for the education and training of members of cooperative societies in the principles of cooperation and also prepare a cadre of persons who are knowledgeable in Cooperative theory and practice and are skilled in the management, development and promotion of cooperative societies. This 600-hour programme is organized on a three tiered structure:

  • Level One is intended to prepare persons to function effectively as members of cooperative societies.
  • Level Two is intended for office holders, particularly persons in managerial positions.
  • Level Three is designed for persons involved in Cooperative Education and training and in the promotion of cooperative societies at the community, district and national levels.

 About the Programme

This specially designed programme in Cooperatives Studies is an ideal opportunity to give promoters of cooperative societies a sound knowledge and understanding of cooperatives and provide them with the necessary skills to manage, develop and promote the business.

  • As stated previously this programme is structured in three levels. Thus a student may be able to obtain a Certificate of Attainment after successfully completing all the courses at any particular level.
  • By virtue of relevant qualifications and/or experiences students may receive exemptions for their prior learning and/ or experience. To obtain exemptions or credits students must submit a portfolio to include work experience, relevant certification, transcripts/testimonials from previous or present employers. After students are awarded exemptions, they may start the programme at the level most suited for their particular need.
  • Students could pursue the programme at a pace which suits their personal learning style and other life commitments. There is no pressure exerted on students as to the order in which to pursue courses. We recommend that students start at Level One and proceed to the completion of Level Three.
