 Programme Description

The part-time Certificate Programme in Computer and Information Technology comprises ten (10) courses (seven core courses, and three elective courses, which can be chosen from any of the three options) covering a total of 500 hours. The programme is intensive and comprehensive, allowing for some flexibility within the programme structure.

The programme is modular in nature allowing students to pursue the entire programme or attempt individual courses. However, whatever the option taken, students will be expected to complete at least 80% attendance, submit the required class assignments and pass a final examination (in most cases) in order to obtain credits within the programme or certification for the individual courses pursued.

The programme focuses on knowledge and skills required to effectively and efficiently operate the computer and students will be competent in the use of information processing applications, information systems and design concepts, programming principles, business telecommunications concepts, to name just a few courses included in the programme

Duration

The programme can be completed in two to three years depending on the number of courses attempted per term, and the number of exemptions obtained. Students are permitted a maximum of five years to complete the programme. The year is divided into 3 terms of 12 weeks duration per term. There will be 4 teaching hours per course per week (2 days weekly) in addition to examination time. Academic advice will be provided to students who find difficulty in the choice of courses and the workload per term.
