Programme Description

Management is the art of facilitating the activities of others, and the measure of a managers success is ostensibly determined by his/her skill in dealing effectively with other people. Good management therefore ensures that a group of people works together in the most effective and efficient manner to achieve pre-determined goals in the best and most economical way.

The programme is designed to address management issues  to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes in business and management operations, and simultaneously prepare for career advancement and employment possibilities. It attempts to provide practical situations in the classroom by the extensive use of examples, simulations and case studies to illustrate the application of concepts, techniques and practices in the real world situation. This is evident in the variety of courses such as Issues in Management Studies, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Economics, and Financial Management just to mention a few.

The part-time Diploma Programme in Management Studies comprises twelve (12) courses (two core courses, eight professional and two elective courses) covering a total of 750 hours. The programme is intensive and comprehensive, allowing for some flexibility within the programme structure. The programme is modular in nature allowing students to pursue the entire programme or attempt individual courses. However, whatever the option taken, students will be expected to complete at least 80% attendance, submit the required class assignments and pass a final examination (in most cases) in order to obtain credits, or certification for the individual courses pursued.

Duration

The programme can be completed in two or three years depending on the number of courses attempted per term and the number of exemptions obtained. The year is divided into 3 terms of 12 weeks’ duration per term. There will be 4 teaching hours per course per week (2 days weekly) in addition to examination time.
