The Associate Degree is viewed as a post-secondary education qualification that is awarded on the successful Imagecompletion of a prescribed programme of studies that is defined by credits attained for respective courses and series of courses.

Thus the unit of measurement for the Associate Degree is the CREDIT, which is defined as the academic value of a theory course delivered for one hour per week during a full-length semester. A practical or research course may need more time assigned for a credit.

Each programme will consist of a proper balance of General Education, Programme, and Elective courses that would ensure that the recipient of the Associate Degree has acquired Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes that will:-

  1. Serve as credentials in their own right for entry into certain Vocations, Occupations and Professions;
  2. Provide articulation and portability with other post secondary programmes regionally and internationally;
  3. Provide increased access to higher education;
  4. Facilitate a reasonable contribution to national and regional development.
