INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS & STAFF
It is the responsibility of every student, faculty and staff at the college to take measures to prevent the spread of the N1 H1 pandemic.
To this end you are asked to observe the following relating to the pandemic:.
- Be cognizant of symptoms associated with the Flu virus:
- Head ache
- Stuffy nose
- Fever with a temperature over101 F (38 C)
- Dry cough
- Chills and sweats
- Muscular aches and pains - usually in your back, arms and legs.
- Fatigue and weakness
- Loss of appetite.
- Diarrhea and vomiting
- Practice good hygiene and follow preventative measures:
- Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are equally effective.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. You may also cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder; do not cough or sneeze into your hands.
- Remain at home if you exhibit any of the symptoms associated with the flu. Visit your doctor or the Health Centre as soon as possible to receive the necessary treatment/medication.
IF YOU REPORT TO SCHOOL WITH FLU SYMPTOMS YOU WILL BE SENT HOME. However, if you have a fever you will be advised to go to the flu clinic. The closest flu clinic is at the Castries Health Center
- Do NOT return to school for at least 24 hours after the fever, signs of a fever or flu symtoms have gone. This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- Stay away from others while sick. This can prevent others from getting sick too. Ask a roommate, friend, or family member to check up on you and to bring you food and supplies if needed.
- Academic responsibilities e.g. (being excused from class, reporting illness, length of stay away from Class etc.)
- You may be away from school for up to two days without a medical excuse. However it is your responsibility to get information to the relevant authorities concerning your absence.
- You must provide a medical excuse for any absence in excess of two days.
- Waivers from the regulations governing attendance requirements, absence from exams, and extension for assignments would only be entertained upon receipt of a medical excuse.
- You are responsible for keeping the school authorities updated on your progress as necessary so that the relevant arrangements can be put in place for your academic progress.
We trust that you will play your part to prevent the spread of the H1 N1 influenza virus by making use of the information provided.
