About Hunter J. Francois Library

  • Mission statement

The Hunter J. Francois Library will acquire and/or provide access to, organize and maintain the resources required to support the information needs of the college community and to promote the development of independent, self-directed, life-long learners in Saint Lucia.

  • General User Policies

 INTRODUCTION:
The Hunter J. Francois Library is faced with problems of user's behaviour that must be addressed to ensure the effective delivery of service and full access to the facilities. The Administration of the College has a significant interest in maintaining a library environment that is constructive to all users and that supports their rights to receive information. This interest has allowed the staff of the HJFL to focus on maintaining a safe and healthy environment in which library users can be free from harassment, intimidation and threats to their safety and well being.

The Library User Policy aims therefore to provide appropriate safeguards against inappropriate behaviour. In order to protect library users rights of access to facilities, to ensure the safety of users and staff and to protect resources and facilities from damage, the library will impose reasonable restrictions on the time, place or manner of library access.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of a general user policy is to ensure that patrons of the HJFL understand the rules and regulations that govern the use of the library building, the material within, acceptable standards of behaviour and actions that will be taken if patrons refuse to comply with those rules and regulations.

The Librarian has the authority to ensure that the library operates in the best possible environment for study and research. This requires that certain regulations be observed in the HJFL.

In order to provide and meet the needs of the College Community the HJFL should provide:
  • Library materials that are complete, undamaged and properly filed.
  • Access to library material within applicability of loan period
  • Services that are both cost effective and cost efficient.
  • An environment that is free from disruptive activity
  • Book stacks and other areas where library materials are housed and study areas free from food, beverages and resulting problems.
  • Buildings designed to enhance study and research activities that are free from damage and defacement due to vandalism.
