The Department of Health Science is one of the College's most popular departments, attracting a wide cross-section of applicants from across the island and region.

Health Aide offering home careThis course is designed to prepare learners for employment as Health Aides in various health settings. The course comprises of a health science core, which introduces basic concepts, principles and competencies for health aides. The practical component of this course is taught in the clinical laboratory and in various health care institutions or agencies, providing opportunities to develop fluency in technical, interpersonal and attending skills. 

salcc dhs nursesThe Associate Degree in General Nursing Programme is a three (3) year programme that combines course work on campus with guided clinical experiences in various health care agencies. Upon successful completion of the programme the graduate is able to apply the nursing process in the provision and management of safe and effective nursing care to individuals, families and communities; and, function as a member of the nursing profession and multidisciplinary health team in a variety of health care settings. The graduate is also eligible to sit regional and international licensing examinations for entry into the professional nursing practice both here and abroad. 

MidwiferyThe Nurse Midwifery Diploma Programme is a family centered reproductive health education programme, which promotes the use of a community base approach in the delivery of health care. It combines theoretical course work designed as self-directed learning modules with guided clinical experience in various health care settings. It includes prerequisites, general education and core nurse-midwifery course work. The programme is designed to be delivered in sixteen (16) to twenty four (24) month full time/part time. Upon successful completion of the programme the graduate is able to provide safe and effective reproductive health care, to individuals, families and communities as a member of the multidisciplinary health team. The graduate is also eligible to sit national licensing examinations for entry into professional nurse-midwifery practice.
