Mission:

The Circulation policy will ensure the availability of materials to all users on a regular and timely basis. It aims to answer three questions, Who can Borrow, What may be borrowed and How may materials be borrowed?

The circulation of material is subject to the general loan polices and procedure of the library.

Introduction:

There are several basic elements that must be adhered to in order for the circulation policy to be effective. These basic elements include the following:
  • Library material must be properly checked out.

  • The prompt and safe return of all material is the responsibility of the individual to whom it is loaned.

  • Overdue notices will be sent as courtesy reminders to patrons that an item should be returned. Failure to receive such a notice does not absolve the patron of the responsibility of returning the material when due.

  • Notifications will be sent via e-mail to students with verifiable SALCC e-mail accounts.

Patrons will be responsible for notifying the library immediately if material is damaged, missing or stolen.

Purpose:

The circulation policy
  1. Ensures equitable access to and protection of library materials by establishing proper accountability.

  2. Defines the patrons’ eligibility to borrow materials from the library.

  3. Enforces penalties for failure to return borrowed materials.

  4. Handles problems associated with material that has not been properly handled in relation to the 3M security system.
